STEM

According to the US Department of Education, "If we want a nation where our future leaders, neighbors, and workers can understand and solve some of the complex challenges of today and tomorrow, and to meet the demands of the dynamic and evolving workforce, building students' skills, content knowledge, and literacy in STEM fields is essential."

The Margaret Mead Elementary STEM is part of the Lake Washington School District Choice Schools program that teaches the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math as an integrated curriculum.

Admittance to the STEM program is via lottery and open to all first through fifth grade students who live within the Margaret Mead Elementary boundaries. Registration for the lottery opens in early November with the actual lottery taking place in January for the coming school year. Applicants who aren't selected in the lottery are placed on a wait list.

Please watch this video from principal Sandy Klein, regarding our STEM program:

  • If your child is currently on a waitlist, you may call the Mead office for your current waitlist status.
  • If your child is not currently on a waitlist, you may apply for the STEM lottery in Nov/Dec, 2024 for the 2025-2026 school year.
